About
History
“the KICK ASS movie podcast” is the brainchild of Brian Mayo and Zach Sheets, two students who met while attending college in Vermont. Each week, the hosts tackle on a variety of movie-related subjects: whether it just be one movie, a series of movies, or a movie top list. Pretty much any awesome or awesomely bad movie is fair game. The website also doubles as bonus material of videos, lists, and other news in addition to the podcast itself. Every episode contains a signoff containing contact information.
The first season started with the two hosts working together in person. Beforehand, the episode was broken down on paper with major points to be included in the podcast seperated, then assigned to either podcast host. Several friends of the hosts, including other podcast hosts, joined in on several episodes.
Most of the second season was done remotely through Skype. Notes were created by either host then distributed.
As for the third season? You’ll just have to stay tuned.
Tech Specs
Early M4A episodes of the podcast were created on a MacBook using GarageBand then exported to an enhanced 128kbps M4A file. Today, episodes are created using Audacity then exported to a 64kbps MP3 file. The podcast is recorded using two Samson Q1A microphones over Skype.
Other Appearances and Press
The KAMPC has also done guest spots on a few other podcasts. During season one, the duo stopped by IOACentral Radio to discuss the Oscars and what Oscar-nominated films would make the best theme park rides. During season two, Brian and Zach popped in on Theme Park Thrill Radio to again discuss what overall movies would make great rides. The KAMPC have also done three “fancasts” for the online animation show/podcast College University.
In May 2008, the KICK ASS movie podcast crew were featured in the third issue of PiQ Magazine. Summer movies were discussed, such as what makes a great summer movie and our own personal recommendations. You can see that blurb here.
